On May 12, as part of the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the national Cyrillic domain .РФ (means «Russian Federation») has signed a Memorandum on the development of support for Internet addressing in the official language of the Russian Federation. The document confirms the intentions of key Internet industry participants to expand support in Russian software for domains included in the Russian national domain zone and email addresses in Russian, the official language of the Russian Federation.

The Smart Internet Foundation, functioning as administrator of the Cyrillic top-level domain .ДЕТИ (means “dot children”), also joined the Memorandum. Dot .ДЕТИ belongs to the so-called “Russian national domain zone”. The document was signed by Director of the Foundation Vladimir Mamontov thus expressing the organization’s intentions to promote the development of support for Russian-language domains and e-mail.

The Memorandum was also joined by: The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, domains .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА, domain .SU, domain .РУС (means “dot .rus”), domain name registrars Ru-center and Reg.ru, Technical Center Internet, MSK-IX, manufacturers of Russian software, universities involved in the development and promotion of the Russian language on the Internet; public organizations.

The Memorandum is open for Russian organizations interested in promoting the development of the Internet in the official language of the Russian Federation and implementing measures in their activities to introduce maximum support for domain names and e-mail addresses with Russian alphabet characters in Internet-oriented software. The holder of the memorandum is The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.
