Children’s information security trends

December 14, 2017

Representatives of the .ДЕТИ domain were invited to take part in the final 2017 meeting of the Working Group on Children’s Information Security

On December 14, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ hosted a regular meeting of the Working Group on Children’s Information Security, which is part of the Public Council under the Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights. The meeting summed up the results of the outgoing year.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the .ДЕТИ domain registry, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, the Regional Public Center for Internet Technologies (ROCIT), the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC), the Children’s Rights Commissioner’s Office, the academic community and socially-oriented NGOs.

The participants discussed the most important children’s information security trends of the outgoing year, which served as the basis for the Group’s plan for 2018.

Next year, the Group will continue working on the tracks started in 2017, including:

  • supervision of the passing of the legislative initiative on labeling information products on the internet;
  • monitoring the effectiveness of the IT industry Charter, and new participants from leading Russian IT companies acceding to it;
  • forming a priority action plan for the Decade of Childhood government program, including for the state support of positive digital content.

The Group will take up several new issues in 2018:

  • child security on the internet of things;
  • greater security of circulation of personal data of minors;
  • updating the rating of information threats;
  • the use of internet technologies to help children in difficult situations, and
  • a mechanism for removing the delegation of domain names that are registered by Russian registrars in public domains or New gTLDs and link to resources with content that degrades children.

The purpose of the Working Group on Children’s Information Security is to coordinate the processes of protecting children from the dangers of information circulation and digital threats based on their relevance. The working group will also determine whether the proposed solutions are sound and proportionate to the threats as well as evaluate the professionalism and expertise in researching the problem.
